Effective Object Segmentation in a Traffic Monitoring Application

چکیده

The main task of traffic monitoring applications is to identify (and track) moving targets. Thresholding an image resulting from a background difference operation is a common way to detect moving pixels and represents the starting point for all of the subsequent operations. Therefore, a wrong choice for the threshold could afflict final results. The morphological operations utilized within most of the traffic monitoring systems to remove noise dramatically undergo the effect of a “wrong” thresholding. Namely, sometimes wrong thresholded images do not allow morphological operators to reconstruct the whole signal. Besides, a fine tuning of the parameters related to morphological operators is often required. The segmentation method we present in this work has been used within the traffic monitoring system we are developing. It is based on an original morphological operation which takes advantage of all the true signals which pass through a low threshold, without being heavily afflicted by the inevitable huge amount of noise. The decision of removing, or preserving, a connected component is based on whether a given object is structured according a given pattern. The operator we developed accomplishes this task in an original way. Last but not least, the simplicity required to tune the few parameters related to the morphological operator encourages its use.

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering

Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...

A Hybrid Algorithm based on Deep Learning and Restricted Boltzmann Machine for Car Semantic Segmentation from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)-based Thermal Infrared Images

Nowadays, ground vehicle monitoring (GVM) is one of the areas of application in the intelligent traffic control system using image processing methods. In this context, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles based on thermal infrared (UAV-TIR) images is one of the optimal options for GVM due to the suitable spatial resolution, cost-effective and low volume of images. The methods that have been prop...

A Comparison between 2D and 3D Wavelet based Segmentation for Traffic Monitoring Systems

In this paper we propose a novel 3D wavelet based segmentation algorithm. The segmentation results are compared with a 2D wavelet based algorithm. Both algorithms have been used for extracting moving objects in a traffic monitoring application. The proposed 3D wavelet based algorithm has the advantage of considering the relevant movement information in the dimensions space and time. Moreover, d...

Daubechies Versus Biorthogonal Wavelets for Moving Object Detection in Traffic Monitoring Systems

Moving object detection is a fundamental task for a variety of traffic applications. In this paper the Daubechies and biorthogonal wavelet families are exploited for extracting the relevant movement information in moving image sequences in a 3D wavelet-based segmentation algorithm. The proposed algorithm is applied for traffic monitoring systems. The objective and subjective experimental result...

Object-Oriented Method for Automatic Extraction of Road from High Resolution Satellite Images

As the information carried in a high spatial resolution image is not represented by single pixels but by meaningful image objects, which include the association of multiple pixels and their mutual relations, the object based method has become one of the most commonly used strategies for the processing of high resolution imagery. This processing comprises two fundamental and critical steps towar...
